Carpet Beetles Carpet Beetles cause serious damage to natural fibers in carpets, rugs, furniture and some clothing items. There are several species of Carpet Beetle and it is the larva that does the actual damage to items. Larva can be very tiny, less ΒΌ inch in length, but damage can be extensive. The adult form of the pest is what most customers notice; a small black or variegated coloured beetle found in and around natural fiber rugs, etc. Carpet Beetles can enter a home on their own as invaders and are sometimes associated with abandon bird nests (which contain the beetles). Damage from Carpet Beetle larva looks like chewed holes in natural fibers (and some synthetic ones) often noted well after a problem has begun. Treatment for carpet beetles must be thorough and done with approved insecticides. Preparations are an important factor in any treatment and full instructions are available from the All-Pest Control offices. Prior to treatment a thorough inspection should be performed by an All-Pest Control professional to identify both damage and pest; samples of the pest must be identified prior to treatment.
